AusNet State Park and roadside field surveys throughout December 2024

Throughout December 2024, AusNet will be conducting ecology surveys at Lerderderg State Park and Aboriginal cultural heritage surveys within public roadsides.

Lerderderg State Park – Ecology survey

The ecology survey will be conducted at Lerderderg State Park in the week commencing 2 December 2024 and we expect this survey to be completed within 3 days.

The survey findings will help inform our project team’s understanding of the distribution and population of the Melbourne Yellow Gum within the Lerderderg State Park.

Roadside (public land) – Aboriginal cultural heritage surveys and soil resistivity testing

Aboriginal cultural heritage surveys and soil resistivity testing will be conducted within public roadsides in the week commencing 9 December 2024 and we expect these surveys to be completed within 5 days.

The Aboriginal cultural heritage surveys will identify if evidence of Aboriginal cultural heritage is present and assess the extent, nature, and significance of any material that is identified. These surveys will involve small test pit excavations within road reserves where the proposed Western Renewables Link easement crosses over distribution powerlines. The survey findings will be used to assess the potential impacts to Aboriginal cultural heritage within and surrounding the proposed route and ensure appropriate measures are taken to protect it.

Soil resistivity testing will also take place along roadsides to assist the project with understanding the conductivity of the soil and the survey findings will support the design of the earthing system for the proposed Western Renewables Link transmission line.

Survey teams will not be entering private property as part of this work.

AusNet will send email and SMS notifications to neighbouring landholders where we have contact details. If you are a landholder along the proposed route and want to register your contact details, please contact us via 1800 975 975 or info@westernrenewableslink.com.au.

About the project

The Western Renewables Link is a proposed electricity transmission line that will carry renewable energy from western Victoria to homes and businesses across the state and into the National Electricity Market.

The project is critical infrastructure required to unlock the renewable energy potential of western Victoria as a key Renewable Energy Zone and will help to deliver clean and affordable energy to all Victorians.
